Bloomberg confirms a report from earlier today that Apple is preparing to release thinner MacBook Pro models with Retina displays.
The models are to be released at Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference on June 11 and will also include flash memory to "cut startup times and extend battery life". The report is likely a "controlled leak", something that Apple PR has been known to do in the past to share product details.

Apple Inc. is preparing a new lineup of thinner MacBook laptops running on more powerful chips made by Intel Corp., people with knowledge of the plans said.
The MacBook Pro machines, to be unveiled at Apple’s annual developers conference starting June 11, also will feature high- definition screens like those on the iPhone and iPad, as well as flash memory to cut startup times and extend battery life, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the plans haven’t been made public. The MacBook Pro lineup was last updated in October of 2011, though it hasn't had a substantial redesign since 2008.
Bloomberg also suggested that Apple will announce the launch date of the OS X Mountain Lion release that Apple previewed earlier this year. read more..

Music Festival-Conference-Startups
MLOVE is a European mobile conference with a difference. If a mobile conference was crossed with TED and a music festival, that's vaguely like MLove. Its big annual event is in an old East German castle 200 miles outside of Berlin. Yes, it's as exotic as it sounds. But this week it took the plunge and brought its special atmosphere to Monterey.Amid the excellent speeches about the future of mobile, and the future generally, organiser Harald Neidhardt throws together a diverse range of speakers, from Grammy Award winning Musician Chamillionaire to "CameraGirl", who runs tech at Burning Man. As one delegate, Dr. Robert Daubner of billiger, put it to me, "mobile is poised to disrupt the world." Never were truer words spoken...Amid the high concept presentations from the likes of the Singularity University and others were a number of startup pitches from U.S.-based startups. Here's a run-down on those: read more..

The German Countryside-Random Amusement Park-Conference-Frat Boys
Geeklist must never have learned the first rule of holes: When you're in one, stop digging. I was all the way on the other side of the world at a conference held at a random amusement park in the German countryside and it seemed the Geeklist boys almost dug their way to me. The incident, which appears to have reignited the women in tech debate, I first got wind of from an Australian who was attending the conference. "Silicon valley hasn't changed since I left there years ago," he said over a beer. "Still a bunch of frat boys running the show."Later, over Skype, I asked Michelle Zatlyn, one of my two co-founders at CloudFlare, what she thought of the whole thing. "What happened at Geekwire?" she wrote back, having missed the meme. I gave her the gory details and said I was surprised she hadn't heard. "Sorry," she replied, "busy building a company :)." read more..
