The runway show at amfAR's Inspiration Gala last night featured menswear, but it was a dress that was the talk of the evening: the black lace Comme des Garçons one that Marc Jacobs had worn to the Met Ball, and Seth Meyers had parodied as host of the CFDA Awards. (You can catch that particular moment at 1:07 here). "I thought Seth was amazing and gave me a real run for my money in that dress," said Jacobs, who arrived with new boyfriend, Harry Louis. "I think I wore it better, but I wore it first, so that makes it better." As for his tame outfit last night, a simple black tux, he said, "Well, you can't do it all the time. And, I haven't trimmed my legs, so…"
That didn't seem to be a problem for the male models on hand to strut their stuff in the "Black Tie/Athletic Attire" runway show. Once the Philadelphia Eagles cheerleaders pumped up the crowd with a dance, the models showed off 78 Olympic sport-inspired looks by Polo Ralph Lauren, Lanvin, Givenchy, Kenneth Cole, Marc Jacobs, and more, before stripping down to swimsuits.
The show was followed by dinner, a few words from hosts Cheyenne Jackson and Rose McGowan, and a reminder from Event Chair Kenneth Cole that though "it was announced today at 1 p.m. in San Francisco that a second person was cured of AIDS," defeating the disease will still take time and money. To that end, Simon Doonan and Phillips de Pury auctioneer C.K. Swett took the stage for a live auction, which included everything from a "Marc Jacobs Experience" (front row seats, a shopping spree, a chat with Marc) to a luxurious Kohler toilet (it went for $13,000). Doonan called the latter an "experience," too, though presumably of a quite different sort. "It's more like a friend than a toilet,” added his husband, Jonathan Adler, who had joined him on stage.
Black Eyed Peas frontwoman Fergie and Marc Jacobs' Robert Duffy were the honorees of the Piaget Award of Inspiration (presented by Francisco Costa and Hilary Swank, respectively), but they were shoppers, too. "That was me, I won the Marc Jacobs experience and the trip to Brazil," Fergie told Style.com. "I am a big winner tonight." Capping the win was a Scissor Sisters performance around midnight.

As just about everybody on the planet expected, iOS 6 will be announced at WWDC 2012 as these photos of the big new banners on the first floor indicate. Streza and MacStories were kind enough to give us permission to run these photos, which are sure to stir up more excitement. Streza also noted that banners on the second floor of Moscone West tout Messages, Notification Center, and Game Center for Mac. Be sure to join us on Monday morning (June 11) at 11:30 AM ET for a pre-keynote episode of TUAW TV Live, followed by our metaliveblog of the event at 1 PM ET.iOS 6 "officially announced" by new WWDC banners originally appeared on TUAW - The Unofficial Apple Weblog on Fri, 08 Jun 2012 17:00:00 EST. Todd Harrison
Todd Harrison got his hands on an old Apple II and meticulously restored the computer to working condition. He details the process in a lengthy blog post that covers everything from cleaning the external case to inspecting the layout of the logic board. It's more than just a simple tear-down, Harrison's description is filled with historical information about both the components and programming language that make up the Apple II. There's also gorgeous high-res photos of the disassembly process, so you can marvel at the intricate design of one of Apple's early model desktop computers. You can check out the narrative of the restoration on Harrison's website and watch a video walk through on his YouTube channel. Laptop Screen-Laptops-Iphone
You've always known that your iPhone is almost as powerful as a "real" laptop computer. Now accessory manufacturer Clamcase plans to bring a laptop screen and keyboard to your iPhone in the form of a new product called the Clambook. Expected by the all-important holiday shopping season, the Clambook -- which bears more than just a passing resemblance to a MacBook Air -- connects to your iPhone to use the big 16:9 laptop display and full-size keyboard to make all of your iPhone apps come to life. Clamcase touts the advantages of the Clambook as running cooler than a laptop and having much less battery drain, so you can use the faux laptop for a longer period of time without recharging. From the looks of the Clamcase website, it appears that Clambook is being targeted primarily to Android 4.0 "Ice Cream Sandwich" smartphones with the iPhone tacked on as a "me too" feature. Android phones will get automatic integration with and on-desktop icons for Gmail, Firefox and an on-screen dialer, with a MHL (Mobile High-definition Link) cable providing power to the smartphone while linking video and sound. There's no price or specifications for the device yet, and the iPhone-specific features appear to be less-than-stellar, but you can sign up to be notified when the Clambook hits the market. Perhaps if enough iPhone users ask to be notified, Clamcase will up the ante for Apple fans.Clambook promises to turn iPhones into laptops by the end of 2012 originally appeared on TUAW - The Unofficial Apple Weblog on Thu, 07 Jun 2012 12:25:00 EST. Scratch Pad-Vjay-Ipad
If your creative expressions include mixing and cutting videos, then you're going to love vjay, the latest app from the folks at Algoriddim. The company's known for its popular djay app, and it has brought a similar experience to video with vjay. The vjay app leverages the processing power of the iPad (current or previous-gen; it does not work on the iPad 1) and lets you mix two video clips on the fly. The app ties into iTunes and lets you select videos and audio clips from your library. You can also record your own source video using the camera on the iPad. If you don't want to bother with all that, Algoriddim includes a handful of stock clips for you to use. Once you select your video and audio, all the mixing is done in real-time, so there's no worrying about splicing at the right frame or picking the perfect transition. The app uses two scratch pads, one for each video, and has a center mixing window where all the action happens. Each scratch pad has a variety of effects that you can add to your videos on the fly. You can add a strobe, twirl, fisheye, and crush. Moving your finger on each video scratch pad will adjust the effect as well as let you speed up or slow down the clip. You can also run the clip in reverse. The mixing window also has several transitions that control how the final, mixed video appears. You can blend the two videos and use a slider to adjust the blend from one video to the other. There's also cube, grid, swap, push and mosaic transitions that let's you get creative with the your final clip. While mixing, you can record the video and save it to your camera roll. For live VJ sessions, you can output the app's mix to a TV using an HDMI cable or stream it to an Apple TV using AirPlay. You'll spend $9.99 to get vjay; it is available now in the iOS App Store. If you have even the slightest inclination towards playing with video, you're going to love vjay. Not only is it a blast to be able to mix videos on the fly, the performance is amazingly smooth on the iPad 3. I didn't see any perceptible lag and any stuttering was from user error. More than once in the middle of a mix, I clicked on the wrong effect or slide the mixing slider too far to the left or right, but that's all part of the fun. You can see how vjay works in the video below and read more about it on Algoriddim's website. Android-Nuance-Ios
As jailbreak aficionados are quick to point out, the stock version of iOS isn't the most customizable mobile platform out there. Certain hooks are simply unavailable to App Store applications, while users of Brand X phones can take advantage of third-party tools to enable face unlock (or, if they're among the 7.1% of the installed base running the up-to-date Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, the built-in face unlock feature). If you want to go all Sneakers and have your voice be your passport on your handheld device, however, your choices are more limited. Voice authentication has been around for a long time (it came to the Mac back in OS 9, for you graybeards) but reliability and side noise concerns have kept it firmly on the sidelines for phone access. That's why Nuance's announcement today of the new Dragon ID framework is so interesting. The leader in voice tech is offering its underlying "voice biometrics" magic directly to Android OEMs with an eight-language kickoff, and more languages expected this year. Device manufacturers that license Dragon ID will be able to offer quick login, customized app launchers/home screens and more with just a brief passphrase uttered by the owner. Nuance already claims more than 20 million enrolled voiceprints for its technology, used by businesses and government agencies to provide voice security. Nuance isn't yet saying anything specific about iOS integration for Dragon ID -- "We aren't providing details yet, but we're in discussions with several of the top OEMs," was the word via the company's PR rep -- but then again, it doesn't have to advertise its intimate relationship with Apple's mobile offerings (and prudence dictates that it oughtn't do so, in any event). Aside from its standalone dictation, search and notetaking apps, the key voice-related patents and technology owned by Nuance are known to be the chatty power behind Apple's flagship iPhone 4S feature/beta test, Siri. Speculation only at this point, but.... Given the timing of the Dragon ID announcement, and the Star Trek factor of having a phone that permits or denies access with the sound of your voice, it's easy to imagine that Apple will carve out a bit of iOS 6 time at WWDC to show off an oddly similar feature to Dragon ID. Here's a video demo of the unlocking technology from Nuance: [hat tip to Phonescoop]Nuance's Dragon ID voice login could leap from Android to iOS originally appeared on TUAW - The Unofficial Apple Weblog on Tue, 05 Jun 2012 13:00:00 EST. Advertising Business-Battery Ventures-Product Teams-Core Product-Patel
Satya Patel joined Twitter in March of 2011, after a four-year stint as an investor with Battery Ventures. He took on the big job of managing the company's core product as well as its growing advertising business. But now, as its ads are starting to take off, he's leaving the company. The decision was amicable, I've heard from a source familiar with the matter. Twitter's executive leadership is looking to separate the ads and product teams more fully, with each one getting a new leader. Patel's options were to take one of those roles instead of continuing to run both.“Satya has done a great job building out an amazingly talented product team," a spokesperson tells me today, in confirmation "We’re grateful for everything he’s done and wish him the best.” read more..
Unofficial Apple Weblog-Moscone Center-Macrumors-Wwdc
Apple has begun dressing the Moscone Center in its first WWDC 2012 banners. The image above, first posted by MacRumors, shows a banner being installed that reads "WWDC2012: Where great ideas go on to do great things." There's not a lot, if anything, the banner gives away. It highlights some of the more popular iOS apps like Netflix, Facebook, Evernote, and Temple Run, but beyond some app icons, there's not much to look at. You can see the high-res image posted by MacRumors here. Mobile Advertising-Facebookfacebook-Mobile Audience-Credit Cards-Advertisers
Facebook just made several changes to its self-serve ad options. The big one: That advertisers can now buy mobile-only news feed Sponsored Stories -- potentially huge for app developers looking to buy installs. This could be a key step for Facebook to monetize its massive mobile audience in a significant way — a constant topic among skeptics in the run-up to the company's IPO. Facebook was already moving into mobile advertising, but this new option should be especially attractive to advertisers who want to reach a mobile-only audience. read more..
