Kenneth Cole-Runway Show-Marc Jacobs

Win, Win

The runway show at amfAR's Inspiration Gala last night featured menswear, but it was a dress that was the talk of the evening: the black lace Comme des Garçons one that Marc Jacobs had worn to the Met Ball, and Seth Meyers had parodied as host of the CFDA Awards. (You can catch that particular moment at 1:07 here). "I thought Seth was amazing and gave me a real run for my money in that dress," said Jacobs, who arrived with new boyfriend, Harry Louis. "I think I wore it better, but I wore it first, so that makes it better." As for his tame outfit last night, a simple black tux, he said, "Well, you can't do it all the time. And, I haven't trimmed my legs, so…"
That didn't seem to be a problem for the male models on hand to strut their stuff in the "Black Tie/Athletic Attire" runway show. Once the Philadelphia Eagles cheerleaders pumped up the crowd with a dance, the models showed off 78 Olympic sport-inspired looks by Polo Ralph Lauren, Lanvin, Givenchy, Kenneth Cole, Marc Jacobs, and more, before stripping down to swimsuits.
The show was followed by dinner, a few words from hosts Cheyenne Jackson and Rose McGowan, and a reminder from Event Chair Kenneth Cole that though "it was announced today at 1 p.m. in San Francisco that a second person was cured of AIDS," defeating the disease will still take time and money. To that end, Simon Doonan and Phillips de Pury auctioneer C.K. Swett took the stage for a live auction, which included everything from a "Marc Jacobs Experience" (front row seats, a shopping spree, a chat with Marc) to a luxurious Kohler toilet (it went for $13,000). Doonan called the latter an "experience," too, though presumably of a quite different sort. "It's more like a friend than a toilet,” added his husband, Jonathan Adler, who had joined him on stage.
Black Eyed Peas frontwoman Fergie and Marc Jacobs' Robert Duffy were the honorees of the Piaget Award of Inspiration (presented by Francisco Costa and Hilary Swank, respectively), but they were shoppers, too. "That was me, I won the Marc Jacobs experience and the trip to Brazil," Fergie told Style.com. "I am a big winner tonight." Capping the win was a Scissor Sisters performance around midnight.
